CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Flavour Application
- Execute daily brief-related tasks including flavour selection, product evaluation, and application development
- Lead evaluations of flavours in food applications for briefs, research projects and portfolio evaluations
- Select optimal flavours for projects according to specified requirements (i.e. customer, regulatory, legislation, cost) and suggest improvements for the most common applications
- Identify appropriate flavour delivery systems and technologies for customer projects in specific applications
Knowledge sharing & expertise
- Serve as technical expert and advisor to marketing, sales, flavour creation, and customers for specific applications
- Coach, train, and motivate technicians and technologists
Data maintenance
- Actively maintain the flavour performance data for the flavour portfolio through evaluation in finished product and capture of profiles
Environmental Health & Safety
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized lab environment in accordance with EH&S policies and hold others accountable for following these guidelines
Academic Background
- Polytechnic or B.S. in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or
- Master’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or
- Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology
Professional Experience
- Polytechnic or B.S.: minimum 4 – 6 years of experience in a food applications lab, production, or related area (preferred)
- Master’s Degree: minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in a food applications lab, production, or related area (preferred)
- Ph.D.: minimum 0-1 years of experience in a food applications lab, production, or related area (preferred)
Technical Skills
- Understanding of selected food applications, ingredients, and processes with practical experience in customers’ food manufacturing environment
- Basic understanding of many of the flavour reactions/interactions in common food products
- Project management skills and the ability to successfully lead selected customer projects
- Ability to effectively participate on customer projects including customer visits
- Basic technical problem solving skills in a specific applications area
- Ability to translate market trends into innovative products for selected customers
- Ability to instruct technicians and technologists
