JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a quality technical leadership position reporting to the Sr. Quality Assurance Manager of Innovation Quality Assurance the Latin American sector. The selected candidate will lead the successful commercialization, qualification and validation of new beverages and technologies while ensuring all products, processes and/or packaging innovations are safe, stable, legal and are launched on time and meet design specifications. This will be accomplished through the effective and efficient collaboration and coordination of a wide array of stakeholders (Product Development, Process Engineering, Packaging Development, Operations Supply Chain, Procurement, Commercialization, and Quality Control) as they go through the innovation/commercialization process. This process position will support projects for the Beverage and Dairy categories. (Note: Position can be L09 or L10 based on experience.)
The position will be located within the LAB region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Responsible for ensuring specifications are defined and communicated, formalizing process capability, institutionalizing process control and predictive quality process.
*Performs inspections of processes, employee training, compliance with applicable food laws and regulations and verifies plant HACCP plans.
*Good understanding of established quality standards and compliance to state and federal /country regulations including, but not limited to; GMP’s, Dairy HACCP, GFSI, FDA and company outlined standards.
*Strong knowledge of Dairy Sanitation Practices and associated environmental monitoring programs.
*Knowledge of General Analytical test for Dairy (i.e. Mojonnier/Babcock, Kjeldahl, Total Solids, etc.) and microbiology.
*Provide direction for finished product testing for COA’s and in process (internal) testing to comply with CFR/internal specifications.
*Function as LAB Quality Innovation LAA/Dairy Quality SME in support of all LAA/Dairy based new product initiatives.
*Assures that all products produced are safe for consumption and conform to the intended product design. This includes being responsible for change management and process improvement as the R&D Quality Champion.
*Directs the quality and product safety components of all R&D driven projects at the site through quality planning, specifications development, and project oversight for compliance to GMP’s and other company policies and guidelines.
*Support PepsiCo’s Latin American Businesses innovations including LAA, Dairy, Carbonated Soft Drinks, Non-Carbonated Soft Drinks, Chilled, and High Acid Aseptic platforms in the successful development and commercialization of new beverages and beverage platforms.
*Collaborate with business partners to ensure seamless quality execution of all new product, process and packaging innovations throughout the development and commercialization phases.
*Successfully engage in highly complex problem-solving, for which there may be little precedent. Issue/Crisis resolution is a key component of the position.
*Work cross functionally with R&D, Global Procurement & Operations to verify packaging specifications that elevate & sustain superior quality throughout the supply chain in a cost-effective way
*Generate and champion new ideas leading to successful commercialization.
*Utilize Quality Tools such as Six Sigma, FMEA’s and Risk Assessments to facilitate development activities, identify potential issues/risks and formulate mitigation steps prior to commercialization.
*You will also be responsible for the US regulatory requirements such as the PMO, FDA and 3-A standards and you need to have a genuine interest in developing cost-optimized solutions meeting the regulatory requirements.
*Lead in-plant testing and qualification activities. Write and modify qualification protocols to adapt to technological risk and speed to market demands.
*Develop and implement quality systems including Manufacturing Control Plans and supporting Quality documents associated with new product launches and technology initiatives.
*Define/plan/execute Quality Assurance programs to meet the short and long-term strategic needs of the business.
*Ensure your project teams are meeting all mandatory requirements going through the Stage Gate process from Feasibility through Execution.
*Develop processes and best practices to ensure that all Americas Sector Quality metrics are met or exceeded.
*Track quality performance through the entire supply chain to identify opportunities for quality improvement and lead the company to achieve them.
*Use appropriate statistical methods to define process capability on existing or new equipment, process capability for existing beverages on new equipment and along the supply chain in order to identify material variability, and manufacturing and/or process gaps.
*Ability to work with Universities, Institutes and suppliers to identify and pursue novel food processing opportunities.
*Ability to work with internal and external resources to identify, specify, lay out and design equipment strategies for advanced technologies.
*Ability to justify/sell new creative technologies.
*Fundamental knowledge of food science: functionality of proteins, carbohydrates, hydrocolloids, lipids, etc.
*Review assessments of company-owned, co-packer, warehouse and vendor facilities to ensure compliance to established procedures, requirements and specifications for new products prior to launch.
*Understanding of technical fundamentals of key processes (mixing, emulsification, dispersion, pasteurization, concentration, forming etc.).
*B.S. with strong demonstrated success in Quality Assurance and/or R&D/technical background. *Strong experience in a Process Engineer, Product Development or Packaging Development role. *Strong experience in one of Pepsi’s key packaging platforms (PET bottles/pre-forms, HDPE bottles, cans, closures, labels or cartons/carriers/containers). *Knowledge and experience in beverage processes including hot fill, high/low acid aseptic, dairy and retorting preferred. *Demonstrated skills and practice of Six Sigma/statistics and process capability/FMEA. *Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, CQV a plus. *Demonstrated ability to identify critical data and distill into business-focused technical recommendations. *Demonstrated self-starter, with ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in cross-functional teams with internal and external customers. *Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with cross functional partners. *Excellent leadership and influence management skills. *Ability to work effectively and manage risk in a fast paced environment with ambiguity and change. *Solid interpersonal skills in listening, coaching and communicating with integrity. *Demonstrated skills in managing conflict and using data to drive decisions, even when unpopular. *Mentor and manage the development of Quality professionals. *Fundamental understanding of regulatory hurdles for approval of new process technology. *Fundamental understanding of food standards, safety and sanitary regulations and good manufacturing practices. *Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, knowledge of troubleshooting tools / techniques desired. *Ability to communication effectively across all levels of the organization. *Fluent in English and Spanish – written and verbal (required). *Fluency in Portuguese – written and verbal (desired). *30-50% travel required. Elegibility Criteria for internal candidates

  • Be for at least 18 months on the function
